"As piercing and explosive as ever." Joe Dziemianowicz for New York Daily News

"While the drama could benefit from a trimming, Jonathan Kent’s immaculate production starring Jessica Lange leading a glorious ensemble, is riveting from start to finish." Roma Torre for NY1

"Jonathan Kent's starry production, led by a transfixing Jessica Lange, also invites us to see reflections of our own closest relationships in the haunted Tyrones." David Rooney for Hollywood Reporter

"The Roundabout Theater Company’s outstanding revival has a lighter tone and softer edges that, paradoxically, impart a deeper sorrow onto this classic domestic tragedy." Marilyn Stasio for Variety

Commentaires : This was an updated version of the Dumas novel “La Dame aux Camélias” and was received very favourably by the critics, with special praise for Ruthie Henshall. However, it was a dark tale and failed to catch on with the public. Originally scheduled to run until the beginning of November, lack of business led to its early closing on September 13 th . Since then it has undergone major re-writing and the new version has been staged in Japan and in the Czech Republic
Presse : NICHOLAS DE JONGH for THE EVENING STANDARD says, "Engaging production...The musical, both its book and music, did not greatly captivate me, but I was impressed by the way it raises serious moral questions. "
CHARLES SPENCER for THE DAILY TELEGRAPH says, "It's a serious disappointment...There's no real tension in the writing, while the characterisation is flaccid in the extreme."
BENEDICT NIGHTINGALE for THE TIMES says, " Decent, enjoyable but not exactly thrilling show."
PAUL TAYLOR for THE INDEPENDENT says, "Fluent, strikingly designed production...a compelling, if flawed, new work."
MICHAEL BILLINGTON for THE GUARDIAN says, "If you can accept a musical with a less-than-sympathetic heroine, then there are things to savour...Fast-moving production."

Commentaires : In this radical new version, David Hare kidnaps Ibsen’s most famous hero and runs away with him into the 21st century. James McArdle takes the title role in this epic story of transformation, following his acclaimed performances in Platonov and Angels in America. He is reunited with David Hare and Jonathan Kent, the partnership behind the triumphant Young Chekhov at Chichester Festival Theatre and the National Theatre.

Presse : "Jonathan Kent's production, which has now transferred from Chichester, and which leaves me grasping for superlatives, has given the piece a fresh look without destroying its essential fabric."
Michael Billington for The Guardian

"Sondheim’s rich, pungent musical with glee, relishing its excesses yet still savouring its delicacy. It’s a dark, glinting treat."
Sarah Hemming for the Financial Times

"It is dark, nightmarish and thrilling, and packed with tremendous numbers, from the comic to the cruel (often simultaneously) and from the tender to the terrifying. Watching it, you have no doubt that this is masterpiece of nervous laughter and sudden jolting shocks."
